Chafing Fuel

Flomatic is a major importer of Chafing fuel into the UK and, as such, is able to offer you outstanding value for money - whatever quantities you require.

Free delivery throughout mainland UK, with the exception of of the Highlands and Islands; where a small premium applies. Sorry, Highlanders and Islanders - but you know how it is. Oh, and the same goes for the Channel Islands; but this statement would definitely come as no surprise to Channel Islanders, who are used to being ripped off on carriage/shipping.

We stock a wide range of fuels made from three raw materials.

Ethanol.
This comes as a gel. Depending upon the manufacturer, the gel may be clear or coloured, viscous (like a good custard) or thick-set (just like yogurt). Of the three fuels, ethanol has the highest calorific value, i.e. it burns the hottest. Ethanol can be mixed with different additives and thickeners to affect performance and appearance: however, the two ethanol gel product ranges we stock are rated as the equal-hottest on the world market. Thus, not only to speedily achieve legal food-holding temperature, but to raise food temperatures to those specified by the client (chef) and hold them for the duration of the service, is has to be ethanol gel.
Methanol.
This also comes as a gel (custard-type), clear or coloured. Methanol does not have as high calorific properties as ethanol, but it is still a hot performer - taking slightly longer to achieve the very highest temperatures that ethanol would. However, methanol is very good at achieving (exceeding) and holding legal temperatures for the duration of the food service, for slightly less cost than ethanol.
D E G [Diethylene Glycol].
DEG is rated as “non-flammable”; which is slightly curious for a fuel you might think. Throw a lighted match into an open bucketful of DEG, and .... nothing - the match goes out. Do not try the same trick with an open bucketful of petrol. The only way DEG can only be induced to burn is via a wick; hence we sometimes refer to DEG fuel as “wick fuel”. You will order wick fuels by their ratings, e.g. “4-hours”, “6- hours”, etc. These ratings are the very minimum time you could expect a burner to perform at peak performance. You will find specific performance figures below.

BREAK-THROUGH on BURN-TIMES. When it comes to performance and burntimes, I have already made the point about the calorific performance of our gel fuels. However, we are able to announce a break-though in gel fuel burn-times. Our manufacturer has been able to pack 3.5 hours burn-time into conventional size burner packs - a size the industry associates with 2 hours burning. With no sacrifice to calorific performance, magic-formula methanol and ethanol HOT STUFF gel products give end-users incredible value-for-money, 3.5 hours for the price one would expect to pay for 2 hours. It would appear to be a winning formula at any time, but 75% more performance for no extra cost in a recession is something else!

Hot Stuff

Methanol Gel Fuel

3.5-hours fuel

(with thick-set “non-spill” safety properties)
Methanol Gel Chafing Fuel - 3.5 hrs Methanol Gel Chafing Fuel - 3.5 hrs - On its side

Our first product is the methanol (methyl alcohol) gel, with a guaranteed burn time: 3.5 Hours. 75% longer burn-time than traditional 200 gms. gel packs, rated at “2 hours.”

***** New Safety Feature ***** Likening gels to custard and yogurt (above), well this new gel of ours is clotted cream. It is always hazardous to claim “non-spill”, but one would have to be pretty determined to spill or to shake this gel fuel out of the burner. See the photograph; it takes at least ten minutes of lying on its side for the exposed gel to exhibit any signs of movement. This development represents a real advance in gel fuel safety .

- Burns not quite as hot as ethanol gel fuel - methanol compares 8,6000 BTU/lb to ethanol’s 11,500 BTU/lb - but an excellent performer, none the less, achieving similar maximum water-bath temperatures slightly slower but don’t expect methanol to raise the bain marie water temperature to boiling: ethanol would do that for you, if that is what you require. Provides a consistent heat output throughout its rated burn-time. As with our ethanol gel, we recommended that burners are placed in holders, (i) for safety and (ii) to allow heat to be regulated.

D E G Wick Fuels

2.5-Hours fuel.

Hot Stuff Chafing Fuel - 2.5-Hours Fuel

We do not have huge stocks of this yet, because the gel fuels of a similar burn-time are vastly more popular and - frankly - are still much more competitive, despite the recent fluctuations in fuel raw-material prices. However, we are confident that this product will have its day. Certainly, it is ideal for room service, Fondue, a possibility.

This product burns with exactly the same heat as the 6-hour product but, remember, that the tin is slimmer and, therefore, the flame is slightly further away from the bain marie. If this is a problem, e.g. if you need the flame closer for the extra heat, we have an adaptor to raise the burner the requisite amount: please ask.

BLAZE

The hottest name in Chafing Fuel!

Flomatic Ltd is the UK’s largest importer and distributor of BLAZE gel chafing fuel.

BLAZE Spirit Gel - an original and market-leading US-manufactured ethanol gel chafing fuel. HSE-approved for safety. Industry-approved for peak performance, economy and its virtually odour-free characteristics. Used by the highest quality catering operations throughout the World.

Amazing BLAZE facts (as stated by the manufacturers).

Did you know:

  • That BLAZE was one of the first "Green" or "Eco-fuels"? BLAZE ethanol is prepared from grain - not from the petro-chemicals. Decades before the idea of extracting ethanol (biofuel) from sugar cane, BLAZE were doing it.
  • That BLAZE reaches the 100° Celsius boiling point faster and has more BTU’s than any other chafing dish fuel? This ensure hot, safe food for the buffet customer.
  • That independent laboratory tests prove BLAZE chafing dish fuels are the hottest?
  • That BLAZE chafing dish fuel is clean burning with no offensive odour?
  • That BLAZE chafing dish fuels produce the least amount of soot on the chafer pan of any product on the market?
  • Relighting partially burnt BLAZE gel. A skin will form on the remaining (unburnt) gel. To relight the gel, prick this skin in several places before applying a flame.
