Chafing Fuel: Safety advice

Hot Stuff Chafing Fuel - Fuel burner holder Hot Stuff Chafing Fuel - Fuel burner holder on full burn setting

All gel fuel burners get very hot very quickly (when alight) and should never be handled. DEG (wick) fuel burners do not; the fuel stays at ambient temperature (or thereabouts) and the burner can be handled and moved with relative safety, although care should still be taken. This being so, burners should be placed in burner holders (see picture) for ease of handling, positioning burners under dishes, safety (to avoid spillages) and to facilitate safe snuffing (extinguishing) in situ.

When using [bulk] Burner Refill packs of gel fuel, always refill and seal burners; never fill burner holders directly with gel fuel.

Ethanol Refill Pack Safety Panel

NEVER, EVER refill a gel-fuel burner which has recently been used, i.e. one that is warm or hot. Observe the instructions on the safety panel of every carton (photograph). To relight the gel, simply apply a flame.

Alway reseal partially used burners with their own lids or caps.

Always dispose of used burners responsibily. Further advice on Product Safety Data Sheets.
